the future is OPEN

Gone are the days of monopoly; OPEN SOURCE is in. All you have to do is to log onto the web page (which obviously will be slow if you are on IE), download the small installer, install it in a flash and live happily ever after..... story does not end here, feel bored or wanna do some fiddling, download the source code, get the compiler and an editor, all windows are broken, doors open and its a wide open world out there.

Ever since i migrated to Unix and subsequently to the flavours of Linux, life has become so easy without the need for using my microsoft leg pad (a small leg pad having the three most important keys ==> Ctrl, Alt and Delete). The first open source freeware i fell in love with is Firefox. A review called it "Best of 2003", no doubt.

FIREFOX is a free alternative web browser that is faster, safer and easier to use than Microsoft Internet Explorer. Recent security exploits make Internet Explorer unsafe. Reduce the risk of viruses, worms, spyware and other malicious software by switching to the most customizable and secure browser in the world! Enjoy features such as tabbed browsing, a popup blocker, built in search and a feed reader (RSS) to keep up with the latest news headlines.

THUNDERBIRD is the perfect companion for Firefox, featuring one of the most advanced junk mail filters available. Both Firefox and Thunderbird can be easily customized for the way you browse the web and read your e-mail.

I guess everyone just likes linux because the time has come where "hating microsoft and microsoft products" is the 'in' thing. I agree with what you say about Firefox and thunderbird. I use them extensively as well. But chumma dont put down microsoft for nothing.

If u use pirated software ..it will crash on you :-)

The situation is analogous to the period when many realised that dictatorship was not a way of life. As a consequence all fingers pointed to Hitler.

Similarly the time for putting an end to monopoly has come. My finger points at Microsoft :)

No more pirated software, running on entirely licensed Mircosoft products.... finally :))
Moreover ther is no need to pirate linux or any other freeware...yipee !!

Ok, I've had enough of the Windows - Linux talk happening everywhere. If you ask me, I like them both. Yes, I use both on an everyday basis. Linux, at the present scenario is good as a developer resource. The amount of tools and programming environment that it provides is a dream come true for most developers. But as a desktop for everyday use, it still has to go a long way. Thats where Windows comes in. I'd rather browse the web, store photos and view videos in Windows than in Linux. Its much easier that way.

Having said all this, my OS of choice at present is Mac OS. It gives you the best of both worlds and the GUI is a class apart!

thats true... Mac OS is also good, especially if you are really into grafic design. And yes, i still use Windows on my desktop at home, but with Firefox as my primary browser ;) Development stricly only on Linux.
